Erykah Badu...

is an artist that is "beyond the box" when it comes to her music and her message. I remember hearing her track "Bag Lady" and just falling in love with the beat and the message behind it. I know when I first listened to her album "Mama's Gun" I didn't really get it until I sat there and actually listened to the lyrics and understood what she was trying to say. For example her song "Green eyes" goes through three stages of a break-up where the music changes and evolves with each stage. These changes consist of Denial, Acceptance and Relapse.

The way she sees and interprets the world in her music is the reason why I would go out and buy her cd. There are certain artist that you feel compelled to support regardless of the fact that you can go online and get their album for free within minutes. I think it comes down to respecting and supporting artists that aren't trying to get a club hit and actually try to say something in their music. So here I am excited because I just found out that her new album is dropping on February 26, 2008.
